SOCIAL SCIENCE EXHIBITION
Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I remember, Involve me and I learn. - Benjamin Franklin The Social Science Exhibition organized by Greenlawns High School was held on on 5th December, 2019. It was the collaborative effort of two departments. History Department led by Ms Amina Pawaskar and Geography Department led by Ms Myra Rose, jointly organized the Social Science Exhibition encouraged by our Principal, Ms Sangeeta Thacker. All the students of the secondary section eagerly participated in this exhibition and prepared charts, models, and even games for the same. The exhibition hall was teeming with charts and models and the pleasant chatter of the students as they explained their models and topics very fluently and patiently to each and everyone who visited this exhibition. The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future. Keeping these words of Theodore Roosevelt in mind, students made beautiful models of ancient architecture, and dressed up as different historical personalities for role play. It was a treat to watch the intricate details of the ancient architecture which the students had very minutely presented in their models. One marvelled at the engineering skills of our ancestors as well our students who could imitate it so well. It was a really interesting to watch students dressed up as General Dyer and as the Father of our Nation. Besides giving a lovely view of our past, the exhibition also displayed the unique geography of our planet Earth. All the major concepts in geography like eclipses, earthquakes, smart city and so on were explained through models. Walking through the exhibition seemed as if we were easily floating from one continent to the other. At one moment people would be engrossed with the penguins and igloos of Antarctica and the very next moment they would be entering the Coffee Fazendas of Brazil where the students had tried to give an authentic touch to their presentation by actually providing different flavours of coffee for the guests. From Coffee Fazendas to the sheep rearing of Australia every single exhibit was not only attractive but also informative and creative. The students participated with such fervour that to incentivize their efforts our principal Ms Sangeeta declared to award first place to the best exhibit in every standard for both history as well as geography exhibits. The esteemed judges were Mrs. Perin Bagli, Principal of Activity High School and Mrs Munira Badani, a very senior teacher and Head Of The Department Of Geography of Activity High School. It was a great learning experience for the students where learning wasn't restricted in the four walls of the classroom but students got an opportunity to display their potentials and explore the subject more. It turned out to be not just involvement of students but also evolving of students. No wonder Learning is the product of the activity of learners.
